Week in Review Sept. 10th - Sept. 16th

This week in sneakers was an exciting one for lots of collectors. The week was highlighted by news of the Air Jordan Retro 4 "Thunder" re-releasing. Also big news this week were the Paranorman Foamposite auctions, and photos of Kevin Durant's 5th signature shoe leaking.

The big story was, as mentioned earlier, a re-release of the Jordan Retro 4 Thunders. They were a design made for the Jordan Motorsports team at first. However, Jordan released the Thunder 4 in very limited numbers in 2006. The shoes released alongside the sister colorway, the lightnings, sold out instantly. The 2006 version can know be found on sites such as eBay in the 1,500+ range for a brand new pair. The 2012 version was announced on September 13th. The 2012 version looks to be planned for a November 17th release. I expect the shoe to sell out very fast and also anticipate long lines forming at your local Jordan retailer.

Another big story was the fact that the Nike Paranorman Foamposite were going to have 80 special pairs auctioned off on eBay. The story behind the shoes is that the film Paranorman by Laika Films and Nike collaborated to make a sneaker inspired by the film's zombie grave yard escape visual. The shoes were given away to 800 people who posted weird pictures of them as kids on twitter. Then, Nike decided to auction 80 pairs for the Born This Way Foundation. This set of pairs was limited to 80 and included a custom ceramic lace lock, custom electric green laces, and also a custom bag to place the shoes in. I ended up winning a pair but most likely am selling them. Pictures are below.

Finally, the first set of Nike Basketball and Kevin Durant's 5th signature shoe leaked. These shoes are called the KD V and pictures of them in the Oklahoma City Thunder colorway were the ones released. The new model features a new lacing system, an air max unit in the heel for cushioning upon impact, and a heel counter to provide better protection and stability while playing. In my opinion, the KD V is a big step back from the KD IV of last season. The new shoe while seeming more comfortable, has a less attractive appeal and looks like it won't perform as well.
